About Us

NESNA Boundaries.  The boundaries of North End Square Neighborhood Association (NESNA) are Auburn Street (south), Fulton Avenue (north), Main Street (east) and Ridge Avenue (west).  There are approximately 1,200 households within these boundaries.

Organization.  Over the decades, there have been many neighborhood-organization "starts" within this area.  The present NESNA was founded in 1997 and has been one of the most effective neighborhood associations within the City.  The reason for that ongoing success, in one word, is "participation."  Neighborhood associations are successful when neighbors share dreams and visions, when they feel empowered to pursue these shared goals, and when they are active in pursuing them.  We've been blessed with all three of those elements.  If you live within our boundaries, but have not been part of that process, please join us!  Scroll up to the top of this page and click on the "Membership Application:" button in the left margin.

A listing of our current officers, with their telephone numbers and email addresses is on the "Contacts" page of this website.  If you'd like to review that information now, click here, then use your "back" button to return to this page.

Accomplishments.  Recent NESNA accomplishments include:

  • Beautification, including the planting of over 150 new parkway  trees, the ongoing Huffman Boulevard flowers project, and securing $35,000 to fund “period” streetlights on Huffman Boulevard.
  • Sidewalk Replacement.  Through fundraisers, we have secured funding to help residents pay their portion, under the City’s 50/50 Sidewalk Replacement Program.
  • Security, including the conduct of a comprehensive survey of neighborhood lighting, upgrade of all lights to modern technology, and the addition of more streetlights.
  • Information, including the publication and distribution of our Quarterly Newsletter and the conduct of quarterly meetings, with topical guest speakers and refreshments.  Our Aldermen and City officials attend these quarterly meetings.
  • Web Site.  NESNA's website was established in 2002.  (You're there now!).  It's merely another information medium to keep our residents informed.  Information is power!  Our website address is www.NorthEndSquare.com
  • Listserv.  Our neighborhood Listserv enables all members to reach all other members by sending a single email to NESNA@YahooGroups.com.  You must be a member of the Listserv to participate.  Want to join?  Send an  email to JHP8916@hotmail.com, requesting that you be added.  Include your name, address, and telephone number.

Meetings.  Meetings are held quarterly, on the second Thursday of March, June, September, and December at Third Presbyterian Church, 1221 Custer Avenue (across from Brown's Park).  Meetings start at 6:30 and are usually over by 8:00 or 8:15.  Meetings include refreshment, fellowship, reports from Aldermen, interesting guest speaker, discussion of neighborhood issues, and information on upcoming events.

Newsletters.  Newsletters are distributed quarterly to the approximately 1,300 residences within NESNA's boundaries.

Email Listserv.  North End Square has an email Listserv for members with email accounts.  The Listserv enables reaching all member accounts with a single email;   It is a useful tool to share information and ask questions.  It is merely one of our NESNA information channels (the others are: Monthly meetings, monthly newsletter, and website.)  If you would like to be a member of the listserv, send an email to JHP8916@hotmail.com and include your name, address, and telephone number.  (We require this information to insure that we do not admit spammers to the Listserv.)

Committees.  The North End Square Neighborhood Association depends heavily on volunteer work done by committees.  We want members to be participants, not mere spectators.  Your participation should be in an area in which you are interested.  The following are committees which make our organization viable:

  • Property

  •  Newsletter

  •  Beautification

  • Membership

  • Annual Garage Sale

  • Annual Picnic

If you are interested in serving on one of more of these committees, drop us a note in the mailbox at our home page.  Thanks!
